A Sociedade Portuguesa de Estomatologia, was constituded in the 21 june of 1919 and was assigned the nº 514/1919 permit. Stomatology was the first medical speciality to be organized in a cientific society.
This society was established by a comission constituded by the doctors Amor de Melo, Tiago Marques, Sacadura Falcão, Pereira Varela, Ferreira da Costa, Quartim Graça, and Brito Ferreira.

SPEMD arrived at our days as a prestigious Cientific Society, being the problematic of the professional exercice and the need of cientific education of the professionals their biggest priorities. Their reports are analysed by the authorities that supervise the health care in our country.

By now, it has three thousand associates and reunites Stomatologists and Dentists and organizes anually various cientific sessions as SPEMD NIghts, various theoretical/practical courses and a huge anual congress of reputed quality.
